As there are many places to eat in the surrounding areas, The Mill House does not offer meals other than breakfast. Here are a few places locally to eat, and in no particular order.

Some of the places on this list you will need to book ahead in order to secure a table.

The Pony and Trap (10 miles away) Newtown, Chew Magna, BS40 8TQ 01275 332 627

Michelin star, award winning food. Made using only locally sourced ‘top drawer’ produce, their menu’s change daily, but I guarantee that you’ll enjoy whatever you order.

You’ll may need to give a couple of days’ notice in order to secure a table depending on the season and time of day you’d like to eat as they can book up slightly in advance. Do call to check for availability before arriving for a table as they may not have space for you. Tables available from midday through till 9pm Tuesday-Sunday.

Yeo Valley Canteen (1.4 miles) Yeo Valley HQ, Rhodyate, Blagdon, BS40 7YE 01761 462 798

They started out just making lunches for the Yeo Valley staff, but word soon got out that their food was pretty spectacular (not to mention the views!) so they opened their doors to the public. They’re open for breakfast and lunch but you do need to book in advance.

Their menu’s change all the time depending on what’s available, but you can expect options like; Denhay Organic Smoked back bacon sandwich on Lievito white, granary or Hobbs house gluten free bread or St Austell Bay Mussels cooked with Garlic, White Wine, Cream and Parsley (GF) Served with Skinny Fries.

Breakfast tables are available from 08:30AM–10:30AM Lunch tables are available from 12:30–14:15

Open Tuesdays to Fridays.

The Ethicurean (4.5 miles away)

Barley Wood Walled Gardens, Long Lane, Wrington, BS40 5SA 01934 863 713

Celebrating the richness of the local soil and guided by the seasons, their menu is led by the natural cycle of their garden, using ingredients that are always at their peak. Vegetables take the centre stage, but if you’re craving pasture reared meat and sustainable seafood, you would be disappointed, as they create dishes that perfectly compliment the vegetable led menu.

Call to enquire as to whether the kitchen it open. Food is normally served all day but best to check.

The Queen Victoria (9.5 miles)

Pelting Drove, Priddy, Wells, BA5 3BA 01749 676 385

Slightly further afield but a personal favourite of mine and a pub my family have been visiting for food and drink for over a decade. Very generous portions of the most delicious traditional, home cooked pub food going. An ‘oldy worldy’ classic middle of no-where British pub that is decorated to the rafters with interesting objects and obscurities. Dog friendly, people friendly. In cooler weather they have the fires lit which keep the place nice and toasty.

Food is served: Monday-Friday 12:00–15:00 & 17:00-21:00, Saturday 12:00-21:00, Sunday 12:00–20:00
